PC TimeCop Installation Guide

To install WatchDog, please use the following eight easy steps:

  1. You may download the latest version of PC TimeCop, 5.0.2, from here. Save the file to your hard disk.

  2. Run the installation file, pctimecop.exe. The Windows Installer will setup all of the required PC TimeCop and WatchDog system files on your computer.

  3. Once the Windows Installer has exited, please run WatchDog from your Start Menu.

  4. If you are running Windows NT, 2000 or XP, you may see the following screen:

WatchDog is configuring some Windows security settings to allow WatchDog to properly run in the Windows environment.
  5. Now you will be prompted to setup your first Parent User. This Parent User will be used to configure all of the settings and to add additional users

Make sure you write down the password in a safe place. This password might be the only way you can get back into Windows if you accidentally lock yourself out.
  6. Next, you should decide if you want to use the WatchDog Login screen for authentication or the Windows Login screen.

If you use the Windows Login screen, you will not need to log in your user twice (Windows, then WatchDog). However, the Windows Login screen is not as secure as the WatchDog Login screen.

The WatchDog Login screen provides for more security and several other options such as hiding the user list and having a login timer. Using the WatchDog Login Screen is recommended.

  7. If you select the Windows Login screen, you will be prompted to import the current Windows user database. Select what users you want imported and which users will have Parent Rights.

  8. Last, you will have to decide what default settings you want to use for your computer. The Quick Configuration screen has several security levels along with their descriptions and any side effects.

You are now done installing WatchDog!

Once you have WatchDog installed, you may wish to read the security guide or the networking guide.
